Reality loses its rules in here.
Baku Illusion Museum opened in Icherisheher on 19 March 2026. Twenty themed rooms over three floors, each one starting with the same question: how much do your eyes believe what they see?

This is not a classic museum. You can touch the exhibits, step inside them and photograph everything. Visitors aren't an audience, they are part of the illusion.
The museum sits inside the Icherisheher State Historical and Architectural Reserve, in a historic building behind the Shirvanshahs' Palace. At the end of the visit, go up to the rooftop terrace and look out over the Old City.
Professional guides explain the science behind each room in Azerbaijani, Russian and English: which shortcuts the brain takes, and why it gets fooled.
Your brain takes shortcuts
An illusion isn't a fault in your eyes. The brain guesses to understand the world quickly, and sometimes the guess is wrong. Try it yourself.
The café wall
All the grey lines are parallel. Slide the bricks: the lines start to tilt, yet none of them moves.
